So Many Updates
And some recommendations too

Hello!
I hope everyone is surviving/thriving through the holiday season, whatever that means for you. As we hurtle headlong into the end of the year here, I have a few announcements around the business.
My prices are increasing.
As of January 18th, my prices will be slightly increased. If you would like to take advantage of the current prices, you can lock them in now by shooting me a message. The beginning of January is typically very busy for me as lots of people resolve to finally take care of themselves. If you’ve been on the fence about getting in yourself, re-upping your time with me, or have a friend you’ve been haranguing to get in here - now is the time.

2025 Athlete Sponsorship Applications
This past year I sponsored three local athletes, supporting them in person and remotely, to help them achieve goals they set for themselves this time 12 months ago. Working with Manon, Brock, and Elias was one of the highlights of my year and I am super excited to welcome in the next group of athletes for 2025. Each of them took advantage of monthly visits to work on whatever they needed, as well as all kinds of troubleshooting and hype from my phone throughout the year. I’ll be releasing more info about the program and the application link in January, so keep your eyes peeled.

Workshops On The Way
Beginning in January I’ll be hosting free workshops in my office once per month for community members. The first once will be all about back pain. Causes, myths, strategies, and fixes. The date will be announced shortly, but if you or somebody you know may be interested, let me know because the spaces will be limited!
Challenges For The Year Ahead
There are quite a few ideas of varying logic floating around in my head for ways to challenge myself in 2025. I’ve spoken at length about the value of doing hard things, and I stand by that, but I also want to point out that the goal isn’t to just push yourself to your chosen brink. The kookier and the more creative the challenge, the better. There are an increasing number of voices out there espousing the virtues of “backyard adventuring”. People like Alastair Humphreys who advocates finding adventure in your immediate surroundings and keeping these trips closer to the proverbial mole hill. A man of questionable mental health recently undertook his own little microadventure that sounds a lot like my flavor of madness.
I won’t be keeping my own backyard adventures a secret, so stay tuned for all of that. In the meantime, I’d love to hear some ideas that you fine folks are bouncing around or would like to hear about some fool (me) having a crack at this year.

The last thing I’ll leave you with is a book recommendation. Feedback from the last rec (How To Catch A Mole) was great and so I’m treading even further away from the realm of human performance with this one. I was gifted this book for Christmas and read it in two sittings. That’s about as glowing a review as a book can get. I don’t want to explain it too much because the beauty is in the mystery of it all, but if you like atmospheric world-building, then this one is for you. It qualifies as fantasy, but not the dragons and goblins kind. If you do decide to read it, or already have, let me know what you think!

I hope that everyone gets the New Year’s experience they hope for. I am incredibly grateful for the last year I got share with you all and can’t wait for what the next year holds.
Happy New Year,
Dr. Dean Hottum
